State of Decay 2 lulled me into complacency then tore my heart out

Undead Labs’ State of Decay 2’s Choose Your Own Apocalypse update / campaign is randomized enough to keep things interesting, but it’s the slow escalation of pressure that leads to the most heartbreaking moments. Oddly enough, it reminded me of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing.
